In conjunction with Elements Art Gallery, respected philanthropist & art patron, Dr Jo Lagerberg is curating TJALA Indigenous Art Exhibition opening 5th May.
Amata, a remote indigenous community, situated amongst the picturesque Musgrave Ranges approximately 120km south of Uluru and 500km southwest of Alice Springs, has been producing Aboriginal art & craft since the 1970’s.
Promising to be an inspiring collection, Dr Lagerberg has personally selected a range of vibrant and affordable artwork to represent the best of their emerging artists from the young to more senior members of the community.
Dr Lagerberg is a patron of the AGWA and Fellow of the John Curtin Centre. She has donated art to universities and galleries Australia wide and for this exhibition her commission will be in support of ICEA an organisation dedicated to facilitate educational opportunities for Aboriginal young people in remote communities.
ICEA [Indigenous Communities Education Appeal] was established by 20 year old Lockie Cooke, a commerce student currently on a scholarship with the WA Institute of Sport, after he attended a Garnduwa leadership camp in the Kimberleys through his school in 2006. Since then he has earned statewide respect for the fundraising and educational programs he organises through several Perth schools and community groups as well as ground level assistance within northern communities.
