Jane McKay 'A Kaleidoscope of Colour Surrounded Me'

Alissia Melka-Teichroew 'Room in a Box'
Colour and Design are the key aspects of this innovative collection.
With 20 solo shows under her belt, Perth artist Jane McKay has been involved numerous public artworks including a collaborative mural project for the City of Subiaco Library, a mosaic feature in the Wetland Gardens in Perth and further projects with both local schools and the more remote Sandstone community in 2008. She has exhibited throughout Australia, New York, Los Angeles, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Taking an enthusiastic leap further into colour and design Jane’s new body of work is a celebration of joyful paintings, and clever desktop sculptures.
Idea and inspiration is just the first stage of an artwork. In the case of McKay’s ‘Circle’ Sculptures, the expertise of no less than seven different craftsmen was required to create the clean beauty of these minimal sculptures. Jane’s limited edition etched bookends and house numbers are another example of multiple process production.
New York designer Alissia Melka-Teichroew was born and raised in the Netherlands. Daughter of a French mother and American father, her transcontinental background attunes her to the latest trends and materials. Alissia holds a Masters of Industrial design from the Rhode Island School of Design USA and her unique personality infuses her work creating designs that are savvy, sophisticated and witty. Her arresting jewellery collection was fabricated with the use of selective laser sintering enabled her to literally make a ball inside a ball. Hence, the industrial connecter was transformed into an object of beauty and marvel. She also presents a series of 2D silhouette furniture to add a quirky dimension to any wall. At the other end of the scale, AMT’s ‘Room in a Box’ 2010, arrives in a wooden crate containing an easy to assemble suite of furnishings …stools, adjustable table, mirror, lamp and cushions completing any new space in a flash.
Jane and Alissia’s work both offer another dimension to dress up our interiors… that grandfather clock you have always wanted, a house number to smarten your neighborhood, bookends to salute your favorite reading material and paintings to brighten the cloudiest of days. Not to mention the capacity to complete a room in an instant with the coolest of furniture in a simple box.
