Tineke Van der Eecken recently made a decision to put art first in her life. From working with the United Nations, authoring published books, to boundary breaking artistic progress at Symbiotica in Perth, Tineke brings a wealth of experience to her unique creations. She has recently made the career change from CEO at the Lung Institute of Western Australia to full time artist. She poses the question, why does Perth have such a high degree of artists per head of the population? Maybe it’s something in the water. Tineke certainly noticed something in the watery depths. Rock pools from France to Western Australia have influenced her unique jewelry. ‘I collect pebbles, and precious stones and seek to marry them with metal to give them their deserved immortal frame. Following the rhythm of the sea, I weave these stones and memories, until a scene emerges, a splash of colour, the play of the sun through dark rock crevices, the elegant dance of the tide.

Lyn Franke is a West Australian artist with commissions from organizations such as Princess Margaret Hospital. It is in shows like Rock Pool Rhythms that this Australian perspective comes to life. Through experimentation Lyn replicates amazing natural sites found throughout Australia. She achieves this by using local materials such as; sand, crushed shell, sea grasses, acrylic paint, inks and textiles (silk, beads & stitch). Within the rock pool, within her art, Lyn has pinpointed a moment of natural magic. Only at low tide can an outsider glimpse the complex and beautiful treasures of the rock pool. ëThe combination of ancient volcanic rock which has been inundated with marine life provides a dynamic environment of colours, patterns and textures. From a distance the vista is not too dissimilar to looking through a telescope and seeing the universe.
