Elements Art Gallery is pleased to present
‘Re-Turning Point’
An exhibition
by
EVE ARNOLD AND VIKTOR ESZENYI
Opens Saturday 31st of October at 6.30pm
An exhibition featuring the sensuously curved works of award winning artist Eve Arnold and prominent sculptor Viktor Eszenyi features at Elements Art Gallery in October.
Titled “Re-Turning Point”, the exhibition will present a series of etched and distressed metal works by Eve Arnold and marble forms by the Hungarian sculptor and teacher.
Dedicated to the ongoing exploration of the human form, the fluid, organic sculptures of Viktor Eszenyi compliment the delicate and sensuously rounded contours of Arnold’s etched metal works. The elegant pieces are a testament to her quest for perfection and the accuracy of her unwavering hand as she gently guides her tools around her blank ‘metal canvas.’
“Re-Turning Point’ signals a return to self for the two artists. For Eve, it heralds the return and a renewed commitment to an art practice which has spanned 15 years and has led to recent commissions to create the award piece for the 2009 Western Australian Tourism Award as well as 17 award pieces for the 2007 WA Business and the Arts partnership awards. For Viktor, who completed a sculpture degree at the Hungarian Institute of Fine Arts in the 1970’s the exhibition highlights some recent ‘good fortune’ when the artist was able to source part of the 100 year old Carrara marble altar from Saint Brigids Church to complete the series of works for the upcoming exhibition. Using the identical marble that Michelangelo sculpted (Carrara) and sourced from the same region in Italy, is of great significance to Eszenyi whose passion for his medium is clearly evident. With a long history of Stone Sculpture and restoration work on castles, palaces, and cathedrals to name a few, Viktor’s dedication to his craft is all consuming. One of his new pieces will embody a religious theme as a reference to the church from which it came, thus signaling a ‘returning point’ for the newly crafted marble.
A former coordinator with the Perth Jazz Society, many of Eve Arnolds works are inspired by music, with the title of the exhibition inspired by the album and track of the same name as composed by Perth jazz bassist Sam Anning, therefore creating a link between Eve’s visual art and the musicians with which she worked for many years. One of the works for sale titled ‘Into The Distance’ will be dedicated to the late Alan Corbet who was renowned for his tireless support of young musicians in the local jazz scene. The profit from the sale of this piece will be donated to the Perth Jazz Society to establish a new fund named the Alan Corbet Fund which will provide for a continuation of his work to sustain upcoming musicians. A photo of this artwork will be posted on the Elements website in the near future.
Eve Arnold's artworks are held in a number of corporate collections such as the Department of Culture and the Arts, Tafe, UWA, WASO as well as in private collections both in Australia and internationally while Viktor Eszenyi's works can be found at the City of Melville, The TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health Research and numerous private collections to name a few.
The exhibition will be opened by Visual Artist and Musician Brendan Darby with live music provided by the Russell Holmes duo.
“Re-Turning Point’ runs until Sunday 15th November.
