Human Selection

Award winning sculptor Ken Sealey is exhibiting in his first solo show at Elements Art Gallery in July.
Winner of the 2009 Castaways Sculpture Awards for recycled sculpture in Rockingham with his distinctive alucobond piece Arc Of Time, Sealey's first solo show Human Selection showcases the extraordinary talent of this emerging artist. Continuing his investigation of the properties of the lightweight aluminium composite cladding which is most often utilised in the construction of buildings, Sealey cuts, etches, distresses and layers his chosen medium in a most inventive and inimitable fashion.
The title Human Selection references his ongoing exploration of the results of Human Selection over Natural Selection and questions whether humans can even consider themselves a part of nature.....
“Our ability to make our own decisions and understand consequences for the most part sets us apart from those in the animal kingdom. Can we even be included as a part of nature in the collective sense or are we an entity unto ourselves and if so, is our existence for the better? History seems to indicate otherwise and even though we are surrounded by the so called genius of our own technology, we are still not getting it right,” he muses.
Sealeys’ unique talents were recognised when one of his pieces was recently acquired for the Holmes A Court collection during the 2010 Sculpture By The Sea exhibition at Cottesloe. His superb ‘Swimmer’ piece entitled SEAD also attracted much attention at the aforementioned exhibition with a local government commission currently under negotiation.
Human Selection runs until August 1.
