If they said nothing exciting happens on the west coast they would be wrong. Emma Hack’s latest works are here, featuring the photographic collections ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘Wallpaper Mandala’. Now is the time to come and have a look as this ground- breaking Australian art comes to Perth.
'Birds of Prey' is the newest collection of limited edition photographic works from internationally acclaimed body illustrator and photographer Emma Hack. In this series she explores the inclusion of Australian birds within her artwork. The collection features the Owl, the Wedge Tailed Eagle (ABOVE) and the Peregrine Falcon. Emma painstakingly camouflages the human form into her hand painted background designs using body- painting techniques. A unique medium mastered over a 22-year career.
This exhibition also features the collection 'Wallpaper Mandala'. Here the iconic Australian wallpapers of Florence Broadhurst are combined with the ‘Mandala’ feature and Emma’s skillful body painting, transforming the human form into a divine art piece. The ‘Mandala’ loosely translated references the shape of the circle, wholeness, and the patterns of life. The result? A voyeuristic peephole of camouflage.
The award winning 'Wallpaper Collection 2005-2010' Artist Book will be launched at the exhibition and available for sale.
Merging art and decor in a perfect 'Artist Book'. “This publication has been compiled over 5 years, featuring every image I have created with the Broadhurst wallpapers. With no expense spared and only 1000 edition copies available, this is a perfect way to celebrate my most documented collection”. 'Wallpaper Collection 2005-2010' has won two publishing and design awards, a merit at 'The One Show' in New York and AADC, Adelaide.
Emma’s work has been chosen for inclusion in the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and has achieved publication internationally in magazines such as Marie Claire. Emma’s contribution to the artistic world does not stop at this. Recently she worked with Australian musician Gotye on the video clip ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’. Using her unique body painting style and stop animation it is well worth a look- follow the link to youtube!
