'Dialects'
Bo Laidler, Bronwen Newbury & Brett Hill
27 March - 11 April 2010.
This exhibition features stunning paintings and collage works by Albany locals Bo Laidler and Bronwen Newbury and Perth artist Brett Hill.
With many years spent in isolated and remote communities perched on the edge of deserts and mountain ranges, Bo Laidler utilises her connection with the land as a source of insight, collecting and processing discarded objects strewn throughout the landscape in various stages of corrosion and collaging them onto canvas and boards. Her expressive arrangements offer a sensitive account of the harshness of lives led in remote areas and pay homage to those that have endured the struggles of the land.
Bronwen Newbury’s canvases celebrate the uniqueness of the Australian landscape. Her evocative use of colour transports the viewer to rocky outcrops and gently flowing rivers or documents the changing of the season. Having lived in Bourke in Northern NSW for many years and after studying art at St Andrews University in Scotland, this adaptable artist also plays a key role at the Phillips Brook Winery in Albany and is a regular exhibitor at the winery’s onsite gallery.
Bronwen also teaches at Great Southern Tafe and the Vancouver Art Centre in Albany and regularly conducts private studio workshops for interested persons.
Brett Hill's pensive scenes will further compliment the show.
