There is a resonance within the works of Ken Rasmussen. A nostalgia. The gaze of a contented viewer, soaking up the last rays of the day, watching the seasons slowly change.

As an ex-Scotch College boy Ken knows what is near and dear to hearts in the Western Suburbs. It isn’t the offices or homes they inhabit, it’s the places that they escape to. Holidays in Margaret River, leisurely weekends at Rottnest, reveling in the natural beauty that defines our state.

Through a masterly application of oil paint Rasmussen passes on an emotional response to his viewers. ‘I try to push my colour to reflect the excitement and energy of a scene’. In the picturesque settings of Margaret River Ken transcends the temporal, capturing the colour, light, and emotion of Western Australia’s breathtaking landscapes. Revealing more than a camera ever could, Rasmussen’s latest works evoke a unique sentimental streak, impressionist vistas echoing familiarity.

Ken Rasmussen grew up in Broome, Marble Bar and other Western Australian country towns before continuing his education at Scotch College and the U.W.A., he subsequently completed a B.A. in Fine Art at W.A.I.T., (now Curtain University), majoring in painting. Rasmussen’s skill for drawing, watercolours, and oil painting place him in the front rant of realist-impressionist painters working today. His work is represented in many public and private collections nationally and internationally.
