Brian Simmonds – Professional Artist

 Born and Educated in Western Australia

 

Biography

 

Brian was born in Subiaco, Western Australia in 1938.

 

He is a full time fine artist who has studied many mediums and subjects for over thirty years which includes a full time degree course at the Curtin University of Western Australia.

 

He has exhibited in many showings and won numerous prizes and awards for drawing, oil painting, and mixed media works.

 

His work can be found in many private and public collections in Australia.

 

Curriculum Vitae

 

1955    Began training as Photo Engraver & Lithographer

1963    Commenced Part-time painting studies with U.W.A. extension service

1968    Continuing Art Studies in Painting and Drawing at Claremont Technical College

while employed as Industrial Lithographer

1975    Full-time painting for one year resulting in One man exhibition in early 1976

1976    Commenced Full-time degree course at W.A.I.T. (now Curtin University)

Majoring in Painting & Printmaking resulting in Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine

Art in 1978

1977    Winner of the Student Award in the Parmelia Portrait Prize

1979& Commissioned to illustrate several Publications for the Department of Aboriginal

1980    Education

1981    Awarded First Prize for Drawing City of Stirling Art Exhibition Judged by Dr.

Salec Mink

1983    Awarded First Prize in both Painting and Open section of the City of Stirling Art

            Exhibition Judged by Robin Phillips

1984    Awarded First Prize in Open section City of Stirling Art Exhibition Judged by

1985    Commissioned to make two paintings for The City of Stirling Collection

1987    Winner Drawing Section of the Williams Art Prize

1989    Commissioned to produce paintings for ‘The Vines’ multi million dollar resort

1990    Designed The Elephant for the Hyatt Hotel Fountain

1993    Engaged as artist aboard the Mediterranean cruise ship Vistafijord on M.L.C.
