LIDJIA DOMBROVKSA LARSEN - DARKENED SUN: A LOVE STORY
OPENING 6.30 PM SATURDAY 11TH OCTOBER
Lidija Dombrovska Larsen, a veteran with over 50 years of art practice, and author of 16 books of
poetry and art history will be holding a solo exhibition of new works at Elements Art Gallery.
With an impressive history of more than 150 exhibitions in Europe, USA, Canada, China and Australia
throughout her career, Dombrovska Larsen’s paintings demonstrate a fervent use of rich colour in her
observations of environment and human emotion.
Canvases with rivers of pigment flowing beyond abstract shapes reveal messages of intimacy coupled
with the underlying grief of the artist. “As the world becomes more technical, we have less time to
express love,” she laments.
Born in Latvia, the artist studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen before advancing her
studies in the studios of renowned artists Fernand Leger and S.W Hayters ‘Atelier 17’ in France.
Lidija is represented in a myriad of public and private collections, museums and art foundations around
the world.
Since her arrival in Australia in 1983 Dombrovska Larsen has enriched the Western Australian art scene
through art instruction and her contribution to tertiary learning. Her insights gathered from decades of
observation and skill will prove invaluable for future generations.
