JOURNEYS
Jane McKay
Opening Night Friday 11th May 2007, 6.30 - 8.30pm
Red lanterns from an Asian market place, cooking smoke and calligraphy provide the inspiration for one series of these inspired works. Elements Art Gallery in Subiaco will be exhibiting award-winning, internationally exhibited artist Jane Mckay with a stunning exhibition of her abstract landscapes.
Jane has been painting 14 years and was a student at the Seaforth College of Tafe in Sydney before moving to Perth in 1998 studying Fine Art at Curtin University. Jane McKay's has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Singapore and throughout Australia. The vibrant coloured, layered works she creates capture the beauty of vastly different spaces provoking questions about identity and environment.
The vibrant landscapes illustrate subtle shifts of light and offer a diversity of colour and imagery in the inspired pieces. The works themselves evolve through the gradual layering of textures, monochromatic colours and glazes. Jane sees the layering process as a metaphor for the formation of the environment and the layering of human experience and emotion in relation to it.
Jane has participated in Art Sydney and Art Melbourne, her work has been short-listed for the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale and The Glover Art Prize. In 2006 Jane had her first solo Sydney exhibition and she has been invited to exhibit for the first time in Hong Kong later this year.
